About us
The Rogla Grazing Community (Pašna skupnost Rogla) was founded in 2015. It brings together farms from around Zreče that graze their cattle together every summer on the grassy ridges around Rogla, mainly on Ostruščica.
The Pohorje plains, known locally as planje, were shaped over centuries by people and livestock. Until 1986 cattle grazed in the forest at Rogla and the plains were mown for hay. Today grazing keeps these open meadows from turning back into forest. They are also home to the rare cranberry blue butterfly, which in Slovenia lives only on the Pohorje plains.
Much of our pasture is a ski slope in winter. When the snow melts, the skiers make way for the cows.
